This website provides support and information for foreigners in Germany to better accomodate in Germany. It was written when I actively worked with foreign students and encountered their everyday problems. The guide exists as it is, but does not receive updates at this point.

The page is still visited often with 500 visitors/month.

New Students: Dont forget to get your free 1 week Ticket for bus & tram !

New in Dresden for this term, and you don’t have your students ID yet? The new students ID is valid from from 01. April this year, and can be used for every bus and tram in here.

But what do to in March? When you registered your stay in the city of Dresden (which you should do within 1 week), you will get a free welcome bag! This bag contains a coupon for a 1-week DVB ticket, which you can get for instance in the DVB office at Postplatz. (Just next to the registration office).

Free entry in museums on your Birthday (since 2012)

Everyone can enter museums in Dresden for free in 2012 on their Birthday! Even including exhibitions in Leipzig, as well as the famous “Grüne Gewölbe”. You can check all the museums on the website.

Dresden. Kunstgenuss zum Geburtstag: Die Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden laden von 2012 an Geburtstagskinder jeden Alters zum kostenlosen Museumsbesuch ein. Wer an seinem Ehrentag den Personalausweis vorlege, erhalte freien Eintritt in alle Museen der Kunstsammlungen. Das gelte an allen Standorten in Dresden, Leipzig und Herrnhut sowie für das Historische Grüne Gewölbe und sämtliche Sonderausstellungen.

Listen up! 150 Euro for students who moved to Dresden the first time!

The city of Dresden hands out a one time payment of 150 Euro for you, when you have moved to Dresden within year for the first time. (January-December). Then you can apply the following year (January – March) and get your 150 Euro. This also applies for International and Erasmus Students!

The whole process is actually not that complicated!

Checklist:

  • It is prerequisite that your registered address is in Dresden.
  • You have a german bank account
  • You must be immatriculated in one the enlisted universities (TU Dresden, HTW Dresden, and others according to list)
  • Take with you: ID or Passport, Immatriculation or Students ID, and the registration paper that you became when registering
  • Hand it in at Studentenwerk Dresden during the given opening times
